Frequently Asked Questions

Basics

The key word here is “concert.” It’s a concert that takes place (typically) in/at someone’s home.

Characteristics of a house concert:

  • The audience is usually invited by the concert host
  • The audience is expected to pay attention to the musician’s performance
  • The artist is not just providing background music while guests mix and mingle.

At Cozygigs, we don’t have an official policy regarding audience size.

That said, it’s up to the concert host and artist to agree upon a potential crowd size.

Some hosts are comfortable with having 75+ people in their home/yard while others may only have room for 30.

Most house concerts have between 25 and 50 attendees.

Artists usually ask us...

No. Think of Cozygigs like Craigslist or Airbnb, in some respects… we simply provide the medium for performing artists and concert hosts to find each other and connect.

The artists who get the most out of this site are those who hustle to make connections instead of expecting others to do that work for them.

The site works both ways. In some cases, the artist reaches out to the host and asks to perform at their place. In other cases, the host reaches out to an artist and invites them to perform.

No. We believe that if you’re willing to buy a membership here then you’re probably good enough to perform for our concert hosts.

In addition to that, the final decision of whether/not to book you ultimately lies with our hosts. Cozygigs just provides the access to these hosts.

Like any other booking, you and the host need to work out the relevant details for the concert: date/time of the performance, length of performance, compensation for the artist and any other details that are relevant.

You can do this via our powerful messaging system or by conventional methods like email, phone call, etc.

You may, but be careful.

Behavior on the site that may be construed as abusive will result in a termination from the site.

New hosts are joining the site every month, so if you get rejected by someone, try not to stress about it. There are plenty of fish in the sea, as the saying goes.

The official policy of CozyGigs is to strongly suggest that the hosts provide compensation for the artist, either via a booking fee, a collection of donations from attendees, or some other arrangement.

The amount paid to the artist is a private matter between the host and the artist and Cozygigs does not take a percentage of that amount, nor does CG ask for that information.

Absolutely! While it’s common for artists to setup a merch table, you should coordinate with your host as to where it’ll be placed.

Yes. You may publicly review another member of the site at any time. Keep in mind that reviews are expected to be informative, constructive and professional in tone so as to make our community stronger.

No! It’s your house – host as many or as few shows as you’d like.

It would make our community better if you’ll indicate on your profile how often you like to host shows.

The site works both ways.

In some cases, the artist reaches out to the host and asks to perform at their place. In other cases, the host reaches out to an artist and invites them to perform.

It’s most common for artists to reach out to hosts.

Two reasons:

  1. To stop spammers. (Yay.)
  2. In the past, we’ve had issues with artists pretending to be hosts to get around buying a subscription.

No.

We welcome concert hosts of all tastes and backgrounds.

Of course, whether/not you’ll get booked with an artist is up to their preferences (and yours).

While we strongly prefer that all of our hosts put on their concerts at their residence, you are welcome to bring in an artist to perform at your business, place of worship, venue/club/etc.

Please be up front and honest about this arrangement on your profile and while setting up the details with the artist.

Speaking from experience, it’s frustrating as an artist to think you’re going to perform in a private home and find out it’s actually a business with foot traffic coming and going during the performance.

Like any other booking, you and the artist need to work out the relevant details for the concert: date/time of the performance, length of performance, compensation for the artist and any other details that are relevant.

Many of our artists are full-time musicians and it stinks to work for free.

The amount paid to the artist is a private matter between the host and the artist and Cozygigs does not take a percentage of that amount, nor does CG ask for that information.

Selling merchandise is an essential income stream for artists and as a result it is strongly suggested that this be allowed.

If you do not wish to allow this, please support the artist with a compensation amount that is generous and covers all their expenses, and more. This amount is a private matter between you and the artist.
